Michele's Self Portrait

Hi Everyone!
I'm Michele (with one "l"). I took this pix of myself looking at a family portrait that was taken of me, my husband and son on a cruise we took 4 years ago. We are cruise addicts and will be going on our 12th one this fall.
Life is hectic right now, full time college student, full time employment, cubscout den leader, active with my family (I'm the youngest of 5 myself), plus hubby's family and our own stuff (It's t-ball season). And we are also active volunteers for Boxer Angels Rescue (a rescue group for the Boxer breed of dogs). I'm sure our Boxer, Max, will be appearing in some pictures here. We are a foster home for boxers also. I saw someone post they have 4 cats. We used to have four also, but they have all passed over to the bridge...most recent one was about a week before Christmas. We miss them. And we are homeowners - need I say more. Life is jam packed!! But it's all good!
I'm really looking forward to the next several weeks of this class. We bought a Nikon D80 last summer and I just haven't put the time aside to really learn how to use it to its fullest capabilities. This course will be perfect to finally have to put that as a high priority on the never ending "to do" list.
It'll be great to get to know everyone!
Ciao!
Michele

Hey everbody

Hi,

My name is Tom!

I took this class because i thought it would be interesting. This will be a new learning experiance for me, so please have a little patience. A little about my pic. I went on a cruise back in February and one of our stops was the island of St Kitts. Whils riding in a van to go quad riding excursion through the mountains. We had stopped by a road side vendor who had a Monkey. (quick snap shot)

While we were out riding we had made several stops and one of them was on top of a mountain. (Great view)

Hello again, I tried to be a little creative and got this idea while I was washing my motorcycle and noticed my reflection in the gas cap.
It is not the best picture of me but you tend to forget about your facial expression when you are concentrating while taking a self portrait.
My name is Ray and I live in West Haven with my fiance Carolyn.
In case you haven't noticed I do own a motorcycle and love to be out riding whenever I can. Going back to school makes it very hard to find time to ride or do much of anything other than studying. Although I have made some very good friends from this and there is light at the end of the tunnel. This coming February I will be completing my Bachelor's and I intend to start relaxing and doing more enjoyable things. We are planning to go to Hawaii and get married next April and that is what keeps me driven to get this over with. I have always had an interest in photography and enjoy the freedom of being outdoors and witnessing all the natural beauty that we take for granted. Being able to learn more about photography and my camera is one way to help capture some memories and be able to share the enjoyment with family and friends. I look forward to the experience that lies ahead with all of you and hope we have fun learning together.

Getting to know you.

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to try different views of myself at the same time and with the use of mirrors from a cabinet and a tripod I created this photo of myself. My name is Ray and I have been married to the same wonderful woman for 37 yrs. I have 3 great kids and 2 beautiful grandchildren (ages 3 & 4). I'm a Materials Manager at Sikorsky Aircraft where I have been employed for 29 yrs and enjoy being with family and friends. My decision to attend college at this time in my life had alot to do with how my company is changing and the opportunities that are being made available. I am not a good photographer so what I learn from this class and from your comments and suggestions hopefully will change help me become better. I am looking forward to seeing your work and corresponding with you.

HELLO, my name is rich

Hello classmates! How are you?

My name is Rich and this is my second online class with Professor Nevins. My first was Art Appreciation -- The Museum Experience which was a great learning experience and most importantly, it was really a lot of fun. I traveled to museums all over CT and in NYC. My trips were filled with new and exciting information, different cultural experiences and an untapped appreciation for art history. The fun of traveling and learning something new is always a thrill and I expect the same from this class.

About Me:
I am a 27 year old Marketing Management Senior in the Continuing Education program at Albertus with an anticipated graduation date of May 2009 (cannot wait). I'm from Milford, CT where I live with 4 cats which I am sure you will be seeing plenty of photos of in the coming weeks.

To dispel any rumors, yes, that is laundry behind me, and lots of it. I tackled it and it has since been reduced to a smaller pile. :)

I look forward to working with you all. If there's anything you'd like to ask, please feel free.

~Rich

What Do I Have To Do This Week?

By Next Tuesday you need to

-Join this blog by clicking on the link blogger sent you (from me) that brings you to a sign up page to join the blog... you don't need to create your own blog.... just join this one. This is our classroom. When you post here, that is like coming to class.... If you are not posting, that is like skipping class. Coming to class is the most important component of your grade... along with the work you create for your portfolio. If you create a brilliant portfolio but avoid posting to this blog, the highest grade you could receive for this class is a "C".

-Set up your fotothing.com account and send me an email inviting me as your friend. That way I can add you to the class meeting area on fotothing. Post 6 -10 images per week at a minimum on fotothing... Comment on other students' work there. Use this blog to show us an example of what you are doing and invite others to view the rest of your work on fotothing.

-Read the syllabus and take a look at all of the projects listed.... You can work on them one by one or at the same time as the spirit moves you... It is very important that you work consistently through the class and not disappear... read through the Criteria for grading linked on the upper right of the blog...

-Download and install your image editing program. I recommend Photoshop CS3 available as a free download from http://adobe.com/downloads it will expire in 30 days though :-(
Picasa has been popular for Photo I and is free....

-Post a quick bio and hello to the blog... you should up load a photo of yourself too!

-By Tuesday night, post an example of the first project here on the blog and a link to your fotothing account where you will have 4 examples of the self portrait project....

That's it for the first week. If you have any questions, please email me at jnevins@albertus.edu

Self-Portrait

Hi everybody, my name is Rob Pattillo. I'm a senior day student and a barrista at the Southbury Starbucks. Digital Photograhy 1 will be the very last undergrad class I will ever take -- I actually walked in my Commencent Ceremony last year! I took this photo facing my back porch, you can see the reflection of my living room in the mirror. I'm looking forward to seeing everybody else's pics. Hope this blog entry works...

Self- lk08

fotothing.com/Littlewing/
Hello Everyone. This is my 2nd time taking a digital photography course with Professor Nevins here at Albertus Magnus College. I am so happy to be able to enjoy this course again, I was on the "waiting list" and only by chance got in. I am slowly but surely studying towards my Masters in Art Therapy. I LOVE photography as well as any other form of art. I look forward to seeing all of your work!
This photo was taken at the entrance of the Tulleries, Paris France last month. Self Portraits can be merely a hint of the person, esp if you are as me, a bit shy.
Looking forward to SEEING you all.

Hello fellow classmates!,

My name is Tulani and this is my first time taking a photography class. I'm excited to take this class because I am the "official" family photographer and now my pictures will look 10 times better. My camera is the Kodak Easyshare and has a ton of buttons and functions that I have no idea how to use.

Welcome to Class!

Hi Everyone and welcome to the blog for the Mod 5, 2008 online digital photography class!

This class may be unlike any other class you have ever taken. You success is entirely driven by your shooting and creative activity. Weekly assignments are designed you get you to see and think more "photographically". There are no tests or papers due in this class.... rather, you will be creating an online portfolio of your work as you move from week to week. Quality AND quantity count. Keeping up with your work on a week to week basis also counts. Everything you need to complete this class successfully can be found in the class syllabus linked from the list of links on the right. Wednesday I'll post a step by step "What do I have to do this week"? list of things to do. Not to worry though! This class is designed with the beginner in mind and it IS supposed to fun and enriching... I am here to help you succeed.

Any season of the year is good to be taking this class... Summer is a particularly good time! ..Allow yourself time to shoot each week during daylight hours... it's your assignment to do so each week. We are luck to have light until 8:30 or so during the summer....You can post to the blog and your portfolio from any computer on the Internet from any where in the world. I'm looking forward to getting started with you...

-Jerry
